Tongue
After His resurrection from the dead, Lord Jesus declared that signs would follow those who believed in Him.
17And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:17-18)
These signs would follow those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord, God and Saviour.
1. They will cast out demons - a supernatural authority
2. They will speak with new tongues - a supernatural language
3. They will take up serpents - supernatural protection
4. If they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them - supernatural preservation
5. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will be healed - supernatural power
In the above text, notice that speaking in tongues is placed on the same levels as other supernatural signs. This implies that speaking in tongues is an indication of the supernatural nature of man.
I was dramatically saved by the Lord from committing suicide. Someone shared with me the Gospel on the street. (This is one of the reasons why I am so passionate about evangelism). I then joined this group of young people who were passionate about Jesus.
One night, very late, as we were praying (a few of us), at around 2:30 am, I experienced the power of God like fire all over my body. It was burning hot. I started weeping uncontrollably. At the same time, I felt like something was pumped into my body with great intensity.
While all this was happening, my mouth was shaking, and my lips were vibrating with unusual intensity. I tried to praise God, and as scripture says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalm 81:10). The Lord filled my mouth with a new language - The Language of Glory.
I was gloriously baptized in the Holy Spirit. God is no respecter of persons. What He did for me, He can do for you also. (Acts 10:34)
Prayer
My tongue will establish God’s will and devour the works of darkness. In Jesus’ name. Amen (Jeremiah 5:14)
