Qualities that Made David Stand before Kings

Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.” (1 Samuel 16:18)

Up to this point, David was just a shepherd boy taking care of his father’s sheep and now someone was speaking about him in the king’s palace. He was about to be elevated from a place of obscurity to a place of notoriety. He was about to be brought from unknown to the known. Soon he would stand before the king and ultimately become a king one day.

I believe in this verse are hidden secrets that can make anyone stand before kings. God is not a partial God.

Apostle Peter spoke with conviction saying, “Most certainly and thoroughly I now perceive and understand that God shows no partiality and is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34 Amplified) God does not favor one face over another because of race, nationality, social standing, or any other external factors. What worked for David will also work for you and me.

David was a son to his father

The terms spiritual fathers and spiritual sons are grounded in scripture. Apostle Paul referred to both Timothy and Titus as his "spiritual" sons.

To Timothy, a beloved son (2 Timothy 1:2)

To Titus, a true son in our common faith (Titus 1:4)

But you know how Timothy has proved himself. Like a son with his father, he has served with me in preaching the Good News. (Philippians 2:22)

Sadly today in the kingdom of God, it's all about what I can receive. It’s all about what I can take from another to further my own cause. There is hardly any loyalty or bonding in the Kingdom of God. This is one of the main reasons we are not seeing a real outpouring of the Spirit.

Being exposed to a true spiritual father is one of the most refreshing and empowering relationships a person can have. This I speak, from personal experience. One can be a visitor at a church, a member at a church and all this is good.

Please don’t get me wrong. However, there is another dimension of the anointing that is released when we learn to submit to one another out of a relationship of love. I remember a great man of God say this to me once, “If you don’t know how to be a son you will never know how to be a father.” Very few people today in the Kingdom have someone to mentor them in the things of the Lord.

At the end most will do what they feel is right in their own eyes. Is it any wonder then that there are many brothers and sisters in the Kingdom and so few fathers and mothers?

David was a faithful son to his father. He took care of his father’s sheep, like his own. He was ignored by his brothers and yet he remained faithful to his father. What you and I need to understand is that there will always be rivalries between siblings. David was a true son. This was one of the qualities that brought him before the king and ultimately made him a king.
