But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. (Genesis 19:3)
Notice the words, ‘he insisted strongly’. Had he not strongly insisted the angels would have not come to his place. In the same way our prayers must carry the aroma of persistence in them for them to be effective.
The Dead Sea
One Arabic name for the Dead Sea is Sea of Lot (Buhayrat Lut), possibly a remembrance that the depression was formed not eons ago but as a consequence of “fire from heaven” in the time of Lot
And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, and said, Up, get out of this place, for the Lord will spoil and destroy this city! But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be [only] joking. (Genesis 19:14)
The Gospel message to some people appears as a joke only to realize when it is too late.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. (Genesis 19:30)
Lot ultimately went where God had told him to go in the first place. (See Genesis 19:17)
But [Lot’s] wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:26)
Interestingly, the book of Jasher tells us the name of Lot's wife - Ado
When God ravaged and destroyed the cities of the plain [of Siddim], He [earnestly] remembered Abraham [imprinted and fixed him indelibly on His mind], and He sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities where Lot lived. (Genesis 19:29)
Lot was saved because of Abraham’s intercession
So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. (Genesis 19:33-36)
Alcohol played a major role in incest.
