Now He said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. (Exodus 24:1)
Today you and I need not worship from afar.
We can draw near to God because of what Lord Jesus did for us on the cross of Calvary.
And Moses alone shall come near the Lord, but they shall not come near; nor shall the people go up with him.” (Exodus 24:2)
Drawing near to God is not restricted to an exclusive few. Access is granted to everyone. The veil has been torn, granting access to everyone.
Drawing near to God isn’t just a religious exercise or a duty—it’s a path to great reward.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)
There will be a closeness between you and God—a fellowship—a friendship. Nothing is more precious than friendship with Almighty God. Abraham was called the friend of God. When He draws near to you, you can hear His voice so clearly - His instruction, correction and encouragement.
Don’t settle for a Christian life at a distance from God. God should not be a distant thought but a near and present reality,
And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. (Exodus 24:4)
We always make a note of what is important to us. I believe one of the important ways to keep on hearing from the Lord is to record the words that the Lord speaks. This sends out a signal to the Lord that we value what He speaks to us, what He shows us.
And they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone (Exodus 24:10)
What a sight it must have been? What a privilege to see the God of Israel.
Under the feet of the Lord was a pavement of sapphire stone. It was like they could see another realm altogether.
And upon the nobles of the Israelites, He laid not His hand [to conceal Himself from them, to rebuke their daring, or to harm them]; but they saw [the manifestation of the presence of] God, and ate and drank. (Exodus 24:11)
Apostle Paul saw the manifestation of God and fasted for three days and three nights without food and water. (Acts 9:9)
Also, God did not kill them, for no man can see God and live.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.” (Exodus 24:12)
The subject matter to teach was given to Moses on the mountain. So also, a preacher must get his subject matter to preach from the Lord - on the mountain of His presence.
So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. (Exodus 24:13)
Moses, the man of God, had an assistant. So also, every leader must have an assistant. Success without a successor is failure.
