How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart daily?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me? (Psalm 13:1-2)
When my wife and I travel by road, she will always ask: how long is the trip? I am sure you can relate to that.
Four times in just two verses he asks God, “How long?”
Waiting can sometimes seem like He has forgotten us
Waiting can sometimes seem like He no longer cares and has hidden His face from us
Waiting can be frustrating sometimes. David did go through this waiting process and eventually cried out, ‘how long’?
Apostle Peter tells us that “the Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness” (2 Peter 3:9). At some point, each of us joins the “some” group.
What you feel is not always real - virtual reality
Simply put, it is not reality
But your body and emotions respond as if it is the real thing.
God’s promises must become more real to us than our emotions
But here are two gracious promises God gives to us when we are waiting long:
From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him. (Isaiah 64:4)
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:29–31)
Importance of the Prophetic
We do not see our signs;
There is no longer any prophet;
Nor is there any among us who knows how long. Psalm 74:9
