Chapter 29

Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,

Give unto the Lord glory and strength.

Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. (Psalm 29:1-2)

The Lord will give strength to His people;

The Lord will bless His people with peace. (Psalm 29:11)

Notice the Psalm begins with...Give unto the Lord, Give unto the Lord….

And ends with, “The Lord will give”

If we are to receive then we need to give. Giving precedes receiving.

The Seven Descriptions of the Voice of the LORD

1]The voice of the Lord is over the waters;

The God of glory thunders;

The Lord is over many waters. (Psalm 29:3)

2]The voice of the Lord is powerful (Psalm 29:4a)

3]The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. (Psalm 29:4b)

4]The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars,

Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.

He makes them also skip like a calf,

Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. (Psalm 29:4)

5]The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. (Psalm 29:7)

6]The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;

The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. (Psalm 29:8)

7]The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth,

And strips the forests bare;

And in His temple, everyone says, “Glory!” (Psalm 29:9)

The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,

And the Lord sits as King forever. (Psalm 29: 10)

Here we see the Lord enthroned as King over the restless, raging waters of a flood. These raging waters are symbolic of the restless, rebellious nations of the world under the dominion of evil spiritual powers. In his vision on Patmos, John saw a prostitute sitting on many waters, and he was told, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages" (Revelation 17:15). These, too, are hostile to us, as God's people.
