Again he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the wedding feast (Matthew 22:4)
The preparation for the wedding banquet was not easy as it involved a lot of preparation - work. Notice the degree of preparation. I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared
But they were not concerned and paid no attention [they ignored and made light of the summons, treating it with contempt] and they went away—one to his farm, another to his business, (Matthew 22:5)
Notice the casual attitude of the people to whom the invitation was given
And he said, Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the appropriate wedding garment? And he was speechless (muzzled, gagged). (Matthew 22:12 Amplified)
Notice the King called him a friend.
The wedding garment, speaks of the righteousness of Christ that God so graciously provides for all who accept His invitation into the kingdom (Revelation 19:8), for it must be put on by both good and bad (Matthew 22:10).
When people stand before the Lord in the final judgment, they will be speechless, just like this man in the parable.
The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection (Matthew 22:23)
Apostle Paul said in 1Corinthians 15:12-17 that if there is no resurrection, then our faith is vain and we are yet in our sins. It is the resurrection life of Jesus that brings spiritual life into us
Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.” (Matthew 22:28)
Scripture clearly tells us that the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection and yet they asked a question pertaining to the resurrection. They were not interested in learning the truth but were more concerned about debating and trapping Jesus.
But Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God's power. (Matthew 22:29)
Lord Jesus pointed out to us the root cause of error. Any individual or church place not operating in the power of God, not having the scriptures is in error. (Matthew 22:29 Amplified)
The lamp and the oil - both are needed
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” (Matthew 22:36)
The religious leaders had become so obsessed with keeping every minor detail of the Law that they had lost sight of its ultimate purpose. They neither loved God nor their fellow man, yet they thought that they were keeping the Law.
