When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. (Matthew 8:1)
For a person to come down from the mountain implies that the person was on the mountain. Lord Jesus had a habitual lifestyle of being on the mountain.
Being on the mountain is symbolic of close communion with God. This is the reason for the multitudes to show up. It is not your social media presence that draws the multitude, (nothing against social media), it is the presence of God that draws people.
And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” (Matthew 8:2)
There were multitudes surrounding Jesus and yet in the midst of all this, a leper got access to Jesus. Worship is the access key to entering into the presence of Jesus.
Majority of the people have no doubt that God has the power. Their only doubt is that whether God is willing. The Leper did not doubt the ability of Jesus to heal. He said, “if you are willing. I know you are able but I am sure if you are willing to use your power on my behalf”
Confession: There was a confession in line with God’s character. “You can make me clean. You can heal me. You have the power to heal me.”
Perhaps you are suffering from some disease and wondering if God is willing to heal you?
You are not sure if He is willing because just as you have seen people get healed, you have also seen people not get healed. My friend, don't look to people's experiences. Look to the cross!
As surely as Jesus bore away your sins, He also bore away your diseases! I want to give you a solid foundation today for believing this truth. In Isaiah 53, the chapter on our Lord's crucifixion, it says in verse four: "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows". Now, let's learn a little Hebrew. The words "griefs" and "sorrows" here mean "sicknesses" and "pains" in the original Hebrew text. So Isaiah was referring to physical healing.
Today, God wants you to know that He is both able and willing to heal you. Start to realize and believe that He wants you healed more than you want to be healed!
Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (Matthew 8:3)
The touch of Jesus restored the leper.
What you and I need more than every is the touch of Jesus. His touch will change everything that is not right in your life.
And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” (Matthew 8:4)
Every time you give an offering to the Lord it is a testimony of God’s faithfulness towards you.
Every time you give an offering you are saying, “God you have been good to me”.
Jesus commanded the man to testify about his healing.
Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” (Matthew 8:5)
This centurion came to Jesus on behalf of his servant. This is intercession.
But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 8:12)
There are three passages in Scripture which refer to “the outer darkness” and all three are recorded in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 8:12; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 25:30).
In all three instances, the phrase “outer darkness” is further described as being a place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Perhaps the place of judgment is pictured as “dark” because of the absence of God’s uplifting presence.
And He cast out the spirits with a word (Matthew 8:16)
There is no need of pulling someone’s hair or beating them with a broom as it happens in many cases of exorcism.
Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Matthew 8:26)
He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. (Psalm 107:29)
Everything that Jesus did was a fulfillment of the Word.
You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them. (Psalm 89:9)
