He created them male and female and blessed them and named them [both] Adam [Man] at the time they were created. (Genesis 5:2)
Do you know that both Adam and Eve were called ‘Adam’ meaning Man.
And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. 5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. (Genesis 5:3-4)
The age of Adam is given as 930 years. The age of Adam when he got Seth is given as 130 years. When Adam got Cain and Abel is also not given.
Also, the bible does not say how many years Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden. Could it be that they started aging only after the fall? This is because they lived in a perfect environment where there was no death, no decay.
Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (Genesis 5:21-24)
Enoch holds a rare distinction: Scripture says, he did not die. Instead, God "took him away."
In the pre-flood world, when men did not walk with God, Enoch walked faithfully with God.
Jude says Enoch prophesied saying:
Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” (Jude 1:14-15)
Enoch walked in faith the 365 years of his life, and that made all the difference. I believe his faith pleased the Lord so much that God spared him the experience of death.
Hebrews 11:5 says, “By faith, Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”
Only one other person in Scripture was honored this way: the prophet Elijah. God took that faithful servant to heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11).
When Enoch was 65 years old, Methuselah was born.
When Methuselah was 187 years old, Lamech was born to him.
So Methuselah lived 969 years, and he died. (Genesis 5:21.25.27)
The Flood of Noah did not come as a surprise. It had been preached on for four generations. But something strange happened when Enoch was 65, from which time "he walked with God."
Enoch was given a prophecy that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the flood would be withheld; but as soon as he died, the flood would be sent forth. Enoch named his son to reflect this prophecy.
The name Methuselah comes from two roots:
muth, a root that means "death"; and
shalach, which means "to bring," or "to send forth."
Thus, the name Methuselah signifies, "his death shall bring.”
And, indeed, in the year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech, and lived 782 years more. Lamech had Noah when he was 182. The Flood came in Noah's 600th year. 187 182 600 = 969, Methuselah's age when he died.
It is interesting that Methuselah's life was, in effect, a symbol of God's mercy in forestalling the coming judgment of the flood. It is therefore fitting that his lifetime is the oldest in the Bible, symbolizing the extreme extensiveness of God's mercy.
The following scripture tells us the nature of God.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
The LORD gave them enough time and opportunities to repent.
