The Difference Between Seeing in the Spirit and the Natural
And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. (Genesis 13:10)
And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are--northward, southward, eastward, and westward;” (Genesis 13:14)
In Genesis 13, both Abraham and Lot "lifted their eyes." But if we look at the two verses closely, we see that there are subtle differences to this apparently similar action.
Lot lifted up his eyes on his own accord (Genesis 13:10). In fact, Lot’s “lifting of his eyes” was not purely an action; it arose from a desire in his heart for that land; his actions merely manifesting the desire already present in him. This is seeing in the natural realm.
In contrast, Abraham only lifted up his eyes when God instructed him to do so. He acted in response to God’s word. He did not act of his own accord; he waited for God. This is how you see in the realm of the Spirit.
Sometimes the Lord will not Speak to People, Why?
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had left him, Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; (Genesis 13:14)
Notice, God spoke to Abraham after Lot left him. Sometimes the Lord will not speak to people because of certain people in their lives. It is only when they leave that God will speak.
One detail explained the difference between the two men. Abram loved to erect altars; Lot did not. Possibly he had occasionally knelt at his uncle's altar, but he never built one of his own.
The Real Reason for Many Problems in Life
And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land [making fodder more difficult to obtain]. (Genesis 13:7 Amplified)
On the surface level, it seems that the strife between Abraham and Lot was because of the blessing. God’s blessing can never bring strife and confusion. If you carefully notice, the strife was because the Canaanite and Perizzite were causing problems behind the scene. These were hidden enemies probably posing as friends. This was the real reason why two families were experiencing strife (fights). The real reason for many problems in life are hidden enemies.
