Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven (Deuteronomy 9:1)
There was no way Israel could do this in their own strength. God commanded them to do something that was just beyond their ability to do in themselves.
Lord your God is He Who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall dispossess them and make them perish quickly, as the Lord has promised you. (Deuteronomy 9:3)
Confession:The Lord my God goes before me as a devouring fire.
Do not think in your heart (Deuteronomy 9:4)
When we get success or are used by God, there is a tendency to think that it is because we are something special.
‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land’ (Deuteronomy 9:4)
Likewise salvation is by grace through faith. It is not because of our righteousness.
When I went up the mountain to receive the tables of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate food nor drank water. (Deuteronomy 9:9)
Moses received the tablets of the law with fasting and prayer. I believe we will receive amazing revelations when we fast and pray
The fear of the LORD
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure which the Lord held against you, (Deuteronomy 9:19)
I was afraid of the anger of the LORD. That is the Fear of the LORD
