For these nations whom you shall dispossess listen to soothsayers and diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so. (Deuteronomy 18:14)
Why were the nations being dispossessed?
Because they were listening to the wrong people. They listened to soothsayers and diviners. They should have listened to God’s prophets. You can possess or be dispossessed based on whom you listen to and what you listen to.
Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” (2 Chronicles 20:20)
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet (Prophet) from the midst of your brethren like me [Moses]; to him you shall listen. (Deuteronomy 18:15)
Listening to the prophetic word will start the restoration process in your life.
We understand that this chosen Prophet, about Whom God was speaking, was the Lord Jesus, for He was the Seed of the woman who was to crush the serpent’s head. He was the Seed of Abraham, through Whom all the families of the earth would be blessed.
When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or prove true, that is a word which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him. (Deuteronomy 18:22)
The reverse is also true
When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord and if the word comes to pass or proves true, that is a word which the Lord has spoken....you shall be afraid of him.
