Building the Tabernacle Furniture
Exodus 37 continues to explain instructions for the building of the tabernacle. It is interesting that God is so specific in what he wants in the tabernacle.
A. The furniture of the Most Holy Place
1. (Verses 1-5) The Ark of the Covenant (according to the command and description in Exodus 25:10-16).
2. (Verses 6-9) The mercy seat (the gold lid to the Ark of the Covenant, according to the command and description in Exodus 25:17-22)
On the Day of Atonement, the high priest would sprinkle blood on the lid (or “kappo,” which is where we get “Yom Kippur”). The blood was to make atonement for Israel’s sin.
B. The furniture of the holy place.
1. (Verses 10-16) The Table of Showbread with its utensils (according to the command and description in Exodus 25:23-30).
2. (Verses 17-24) The gold lampstand (according to the command and description in Exodus 25:31-40).
3. (Verses 25-28) The Altar of Incense (according to the command and description in Exodus 30:1-10).
4. (Verse 29) The anointing oil and incense (according to the command and description in Exodus 30:22-38).
