The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1)
Even though the earth is presently subject to bondage because of the fall, the Lord is going to take this world back.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in. (Psalm 24:7)
The structure of walls and gates in biblical times was much different from today. Both the walls and gates were several feet thick. Some gates were on a pulley-like apparatus that allowed them to be raised or lowered. They did not open like a contemporary door that swings open. They were raised or lowered. It is this type of gate that is being referred to in Psalm 24:7
