You may have heard of the blessings Jesus spoke of in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-10). Here’s a “blessing” from the Old Testament that is less well-known: “Blessed is he who considers the poor” (Psalm 41:1).
Seven Fold Blessings of Considering the Poor
1) The LORD Will Preserve him and keep him alive.
2) He will be blessed on earth
3) The LORD will not deliver him to the will of his enemies
4) The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness
5) The LORD will sustain him on his sick bed.
6) Your enemies will never triumph over you.
7) The LORD will uphold you in your integrity, and set you before HIS face forever
Blessings in this Age and also in the age to come – (Read Matthew 25:34-40)
This is a Messianic Prophecy fulfilled in Lord Jesus Christ
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. (Psalm 41:9)
Jesus was Betrayed by His friend Judas Matt 26:48-49 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. (John 13:18; Acts 1:16).
This Psalm was probably written at the time of Absalom’s rebellion (2 Sam 15). David’s familiar friend was no doubt Ahithophel, his close advisor who deserted him. (2 Sam 17:23)
It is interesting that Ahithophel was related to Bathsheba. The verse Psalm 41:9 gives evidence that Messiah would be betrayed. Judas saluted Jesus with a kiss of peace. (Matt 26:49). Ahithophel and Judas had similar ends – they committed suicide.
