I cry out to the Lord with my voice;
With my voice to the Lord, I make my supplication.(Pslams142:1)
Crying out to the Lord speaks of prayer. There are many ways to cry out to the Lord; in thoughts, feelings and actions. In this case, David cried out to the Lord using his voice.
A blind beggar called Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) sat by the road begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth passing by, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many warned him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”. (Mark 10: 46-48)
There is a time for contemplative prayer, and there is a time for crying out to the Lord with your voice.
They have secretly set a snare for me. (Psalm 142:3)
David did not know what snares the enemy had set against him, but nevertheless, he was made aware of the reality of them existing.
Look on my right hand and see,
For there is no one who acknowledges me;
Refuge has failed me;
No one cares for my soul. (Psalm 142:4)
The right hand speaks of companionship and fellowship. David speaks of the loneliness and rejection that he had to endure.
6 Deliver me from my persecutors,
For they are stronger than I.
7 Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may praise Your name; (Psalm 142:6-7)
This is a powerful prayer for deliverance. David acknowledges the fact that his oppressors are too strong for him but not for the Lord. Many may not be bound physically, but their souls and emotions are in prison.
David also speaks about the purpose for his deliverance; “that I may praise your name”. Deliverance is so that you can praise his name.
