Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me. (Psalm 131:1)
It is one thing to aspire to do great things, and it is another thing to get into matters over your head! You can promote yourself above your capacity, and if you do, you will sink fast. God doesn't do that, but sometimes, in our enthusiasm to learn to swim, we get into water that is over our heads. The Bible speaks of not exercising yourself in things too high for you (Psalm 131:1).
There are Christians that have entered into deals and partnerships that have wrecked their lives and calling. It was C. H. Spurgeon who commented that Psalm 131 is one of the shortest psalms to read and one of the longest to learn.
Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself. (Psalm 131:2)
In today’s times of stress and anxiety, our minds are going in a million different directions at once. This makes prayer and bible reading difficult.
How do you calm down when you are upset?
Here are some of the things that can calm you and get you into a place of quiet.

How do you calm down when you are upset?
Here are some of the things that can calm you and get you into a place of quiet.
- Shut off your phone.
- Deep worship has the ability to calm and quiet your mind. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God!”. The Hebrew verb here that is translated as “be still” means to stop, be inactive, let go, and relax.
- Listening to soft soaking worship music will calm and quiet your mind.
- “Like a baby content in its mother’s arms” (Psalm 131:2 MSG). Being content is another way to get into a place of calm and quiet.
